CCG and the Older People’s Community Project were proud to complete a number of projects as part of our Student Summer Scheme 2022 which is supported by the Southern Health and Social Care Trust PWB division. For six weeks, students have been coming to learn about Dementia, the Psychiatry of Old Age, and how older people’s quality of life can be improved. During these workshop we completed a number of sensory boards and activity boards for people living with Dementia. They are a great therapy and can provide a measure of carer respite. Many thanks to Katrina Lavery, Volunteer Co-Ordinator for Newry and Mourne for setting us up with Ann and Nikola from St Joseph’s Nursing Home and Ashgrove Care Home Newry respectively who have already put the activity sets to use in their work.

Thanks to the students and the staff from their schools who worked so hard over the 6 weeks in creating some very useful and well-designed resources, and to CCG volunteer Michael Rocks for lending his expertise to the project.
