Good Morning Volunteer – Telephone Befriender

Purpose of role:
To assist in the provision of the Good Morning telephone support service provided by the Confederation of Community Groups to engage with older isolated people in Newry, South Armagh & South Down to combat isolation and loneliness.
We are looking for people who are:
…. chatty friendly and enjoy conversation and have a little knowledge of basic I.T. The person would be empathetic towards the care and support of older vulnerable people and willing to offer social contact to older people who are feeling isolated, vulnerable or who have been recently discharged from hospital.
What we offer the volunteer
There will be a comprehensive training plan provided covering all aspects of the role and an introduction to our organisation and how it works. When full training is complete, we can offer the volunteer the opportunity to carry out the role from their own home if preferrable, with full I.T. back up
Anything else?
You will have an opportunity to partake in any of our Volunteer Recognition and Appreciation events. We organise regular social events for our volunteer team and produce a training calendar related to the role as well as other fun group activities We will support you in any further volunteering opportunities or endeavours and try to make the volunteering role a s enjoyable and stress free as possible.
Any agreed expenses will be reimbursed.
Weekdays: Anytime between 10.00am and 4.00pm
One and a half hours per week/Flexible
Tasks and responsibilities
- Giving individual attention and support to an isolated older person
- Able to identify the needs of older people.
- Ability to build relationships via the telephone.
- Make and record calls using a PC or laptop.
