On Thursday the 5th of September, here at Ballybot House we had the official launch of our new ‘Chatty Bench’. The bench is part of our 50th Anniversary event programme and a brilliant new facility for all the users of Ballybot House and An Stóras, our second building on site.
The bench was funded and opened by Martina McAloon, Social Work Lead MDT Newry & District GP Federation, and John Flett, Social Work Assistant within the MDT. The bench will provide a comfortable neutral space at our building, and being covered, can provide shelter in our ever-changeable weather!
We are very proud that our own Dermot Murphy was the person responsible for the bench design and production. Is is a great addition to the organisation and is a tribute to his skill and professionalism.
We had the services of Karl and the great team at the She-Bean Coffee Trailer, and our tenants here and friends enjoyed beautiful coffees and snacks for our event. Special thanks to Tara Smyth, Age Friendly Co-Ordinator for Newry and Mourne District Council for help in supporting this event, and to Annie Clarke of the Southern Trust who has done a lot of work
Thanks to all who came and chatted and to our Board members who were there in great numbers – we know through our work in the Older People’s Project and our Good Morning Service the value of conversation and connection, and we hope our new bench will go a long way towards making that happen with everyone who uses our buildings.
