Shopmobility Newry is a charity hiring manual wheelchairs and powered scooters to people who wish to shop and socialise in Newry City Centre. Equipment is available from our office at the Buttercrane Centre and through the Customer Service Desk at The Quays Shopping and Leisure Complex. Our office in the Buttercrane Centre is staffed Monday to Friday, 10.00am – 5.30pm, outside these hours and including Saturday and Sunday, equipment may be accessed by contacting the Buttecrane’s Security on 028 3026 4627.
Please note that, outside office hours, for health and safety reasons, mobility scooters will only be issued to people who can present a valid Shopmobility membership card indicating they have been trained in the use of such equipment. This restriction does not apply to wheelchair users.
Shopmobility is for everyone, young or old, whether their disability is temporary or permanent – anyone who needs help with mobility. Shopmobility is about the freedom to get around.
To use our service, all you need to do is present photographic identification and pay £2 hire charge for up to 3 hours use of a scooter or wheelchair. For the more regular user, a 12 month annual membership scheme is available costing £10. We can also provide wheelchairs on long-term hire.
Training in the operation of mobility scooters is provided by our staff. If you require assistance, we can bring your equipment to the car park or local bus station, just phone us on 028 3025 6062 to make arrangements.
