Layered Lands
An innovative new programme is set to bring communities together to explore space and place, and shared histories through immersive digital art and technology. The Layered Lands project is an opportunity for people living in border counties to tell the stories behind their communities while building cross-community understanding.
Over two years, participants will explore their local environments and use augmented reality, audio, video and other digital arts to express how the stories behind them are shaped by different perspectives, and how these contribute to a collective history. The project will culminate in a showcase event where families and the wider community will come together to experience the work created.
Project lead, WheelWorks Arts, is confident that Layered Lands will leave a lasting legacy by creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds to engage creatively, deepen their connection to place, and build relationships rooted in understanding and respect.
Announcing the project, Farah Chowdhury CEO of WheelWorks Arts, said:
“We’re delighted to launch this innovative intergenerational heritage project which connect 2 cross border communities. Using immersive technology participants will explore their local places, share heritage stories, make friendships and build meaningful connections.”
Layered Lands is delivered by WheelWorks Arts, in partnership with Dundalk Youth Centre, CCG Newry, and supported by the PEACEPLUS Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
