Our Older People’s Community Project is continually seeking new opportunities to grow and enhance the reach of our Good Morning Service. This vital service plays an important role in supporting older members of our community by reducing isolation, promoting wellbeing, and offering a friendly, reassuring point of contact each day.

We have been very fortunate to receive ongoing support and valuable input from the MDT Social Work team across a number of areas. Their collaboration has been instrumental in helping us identify needs within local communities and develop our service accordingly. Building on this strong partnership, we are now delighted to be progressing plans to extend our Good Morning Service into the Banbridge area. This expansion will be delivered in collaboration with the team at Banbridge Group Surgery, whose involvement will further strengthen the local support network available to older people.

As part of this development, we recently hosted a meeting with a number of interested volunteers. The response was very encouraging, and we are excited to move forward with establishing a dedicated Banbridge Hub. We are hopeful that this hub will be based in the meeting rooms at St Patrick’s on Dromore Street, providing a welcoming and accessible space from which volunteers can coordinate calls and connect with service users.

We are always eager to welcome new volunteers and community groups who would like to get involved in making a positive difference. Volunteering with the Good Morning Service is a rewarding way to support older people in your local area, whether by making regular calls, helping with outreach, or assisting with the ongoing development of the service.

What is Cedar in the Park?

Cedar in the Park is a fully accessible community carnival held at Ormeau Park, Belfast. The day brings together live music, carnival stalls, a country market, alongside the Cedar Story Trail — a walkthrough marking 85 years of the organisation’s history. At the heart of the event is It’s a Cedar Knockout!, a fun and inclusive fundraising competition in the spirit of the classic TV show, run alongside an entertainment stage filled with music and song throughout the day.
